What options do I have if I want to be a solo mum or a single mother by choice?
At Reproclinic, we offer you several options to enable you to start the journey towards solo motherhood. Each of them will be completely adapted to you after a clinical and analytical assessment.
Intrauterine Insemination with donor sperm
One of these options is Intrauterine Insemination with donor sperm, a painless, simple, and fast treatment.
This technique consists of two phases:
- Ovarian stimulation phase, in which a hormone-based medication is administered to produce more eggs.
- Insemination phase, which is very similar to taking a cytology.
This option is suitable for women under 38 years old, in good health, without significant medical contraindications such as fallopian tube obstruction, ovulation disorders, cervical issues, or mild endometriosis.
In Vitro Fertilization with donor sperm
For women over 38 years old, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the most advisable option, as the chances of pregnancy with artificial insemination are reduced beyond this age range.
The procedure is slightly more labor-intensive than Intrauterine Insemination:
- Ovarian stimulation is done to produce more eggs. After 8 to 11 days, an HCG injection is administered to mature the eggs.
- Egg aspiration takes place 36 hours after the injection. This process lasts about 20 minutes, and a small sedation is performed for your comfort.
- Fertilization occurs when the eggs are united with the chosen sperm for spontaneous fertilization to occur.
- Embryo monitoring is done regularly to ensure proper development. Our team selects the highest quality embryos to increase pregnancy chances.
- After about 5 days post-aspiration, the embryo(s) are transferred to the uterus. This procedure is painless and fast, allowing you to leave the clinic shortly after and resume your normal life.
Emotional and practical considerations
At Reproclinic, we understand that society is constantly evolving, and many women find themselves in situations where they want to bring a baby into the world without a partner. We are here to support and help you make this dream a reality in the most suitable way possible. We take pride in offering first-class patient care for women looking to become solo mums or single mums by choice.
Questions to ask yourself before becoming a solo mum or single mum by choice:
If you are considering fertility treatment to become a solo mum or single mum by choice, you should reflect on the following:
- Do I have financial stability?
Consider the costs of fertility treatment, the financial impact of taking time off for maternity leave, and the cost of raising a child. The more savings you have in advance, the easier it will be to manage. - Do I have the right support in my life?
Being a solo mum does not mean doing it all alone. Even supermums need help from time to time. If you do not have a partner, seek the practical and emotional support of friends and family. If your support network is limited, think about how to build one before having your baby.
