Barcelona Pride 2022

All people should be treated equally, regardless of who they are or who they love. And love is too beautiful to be hidden in the closet...

Around the world, the month of June is the Pride Month for all activists who believe that love knows no boundaries. Barcelona Pride 2022, celebrated between the 13th and the 26th of June, is the largest Pride event on the Mediterranean Sea coast, where members of the LGBTQIA+ community can come forward and stand up for what they believe in. The main goal of organizing this huge event every year is to ensure that the members of this community are heard and become visible, while celebrating their love for one another.

One thing that our queer readers might find interesting is Spartacus’ Gay Travel Index, which measures the legal situation and living conditions for members of the queer community in every county. According to its ranking for 2021, Spain has the second highest score in the world, together with Malta and Portugal, which means that these countries are liberal and queer-friendly for traveling or living in. And Barcelona, specifically, has always been a city with an open heart and respect for diversity, where people believe that love is for everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.

This year, the message that participants in the Barcelona Pride want to send to the world is that we have to love ourselves more. We have to make sure that we express love not only to people who are similar to us, but also to those who are different from us, or who think differently from us. Barcelona Pride reminds us every year that love comes in thousands of different shapes and colors, and that we have to show respect for all people around us, without judging them for who they love because who are we to judge others for who they love?

Moreover, Barcelona Pride has chosen its cause for 2022 to be lesbian visibility. We should all recognize that lesbian women have historically suffered a double social and structural discrimination: first, simply for being women, and second, for being homosexual. The main protagonists of this year’s edition of Barcelona Pride will be the lesbians, who as all other women, are diverse, powerful, free, and fearless. Their sexual orientation, however, is the reason why they face different realities, stigmas, and situations on a daily basis, which frankly, should have become part of the past at this point.

Considering the focus of this year’s Pride campaign, it comes as no surprise that the chosen motto is #Bollomami (the word “bollo” in Spanish means “sweet roll”, but it is also used as a slang for a lesbian woman). It is inspired by the title of the last album by the world-famous Catalan singer Rosalía, which is all about empowering women and making them feel unique and special. Speaking of artists, the headliner in Barcelona Pride 2022 will be AQUA, known internationally for their hit song “Barbie Girl” and for being 90s dance icons.

Humanity moves forward when people focus on their similarities, rather than on their differences. And don’t we all need a little bit of love? A tight hug from a loved one? An unexpected smile from a stranger? At the end of the day, we aren’t really that different, are we?

All of us at Reproclinic believe that if we reduce life to black or white, we will never be able to see rainbows. This is why we stand in solidarity with all members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and more specifically, with lesbian women, not only in the month of June, but always. We have always shown support and love for lesbian couples time and time again, by assisting them in making their dreams of becoming mothers reality. We will continue to do so in the future, starting with a special offer for all of you interested in ROPA treatments: a 10% discount on the regular price!
