Egg Donation in Spain

By Reproclinic Editorial Committee

We know that Assisted reproductive processes can often be complicated. There are many new concepts, a totally unfamiliar vocabulary, various tests and analyses, medical instructions, etc.  If we add to all this the distance, language, culture and need to organize travel, carrying out a fertility treatment can become a never-ending uphill battle.

The aim of Reproclinic is to make the whole process as easy as possible, to make you feel comfortable and to make sure that you only have to worry about what is important.

To this end, we will assign you a personal assistant, a nurse and a doctor who speak your language. Our personal assistant will give you all the information and support you need, even when the time comes, with the management of the trip. Once we are at the stage of treatment where travel to Barcelona is necessary, if you need a car, we will pick you up at the airport and accompany you to the hotel or clinic. The personal assistant will be present at all visits to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

As far as the treatment is concerned, it is important to know that egg donation in Spain is completely legal and anonymous. In order to be selected for the donation programs, donors will have to pass strict health tests, as well as a psychological evaluation and a complete genetic test which includes: the study of the karyotype and a complete study of recessive genetic diseases.

How is the process of an assisted reproduction treatment from abroad?

Although, at first glance, it may seem a somewhat complex process, don’t worry. It is not. Our “Patient Journey” within a treatment is designed to be as comfortable as possible and you only have to move around when strictly necessary as part of the treatment. We explain this below:

The first and second visits to Reproclinic are free and online.

You will always be entitled to first medical visit at our facilities, but we have made easier so that you’re not required to travel. During the first free online visit, a study of your medical history and background is carried out. In some cases, you may be asked to carry out medical tests that you don’t have that will help us better assess your diagnosis.

Once the tests have been carried out, they will be shared with the doctor and a second free appointment will be scheduled on ine to advise on the best treatment. We want you to have the best diagnosis, the best guarantees and the necessary confidence to carry out the treatment with us. During these two free visits you will be able to solve any doubts you may have with your medical-assistance team.  You will also have open communication at all times, 7 days a week.

Once you decide to start the treatment, it begins with the search for the most suitable donor for you and the start of ovarian stimulation. We will make sure to find the best possible donor according to physical and immunological criteria.

A first trip: We recommend that you schedule a first visit in person, we will carry out the necessary analyses and you will be able to leave a cryopreserved sample of sperm, so that you will not have to travel again until the embryos are transferred. This trip can be done on the same day and there is no need to stay longer if it is not necessary for other reasons.

After 9-10 days of ovarian stimulation, the donor will then undergo the egg retrieval. The same day, the laboratory will proceed to thaw the couple sperm sample and fertilize all the oocytes that will later develop into embryos. Once they reach 5-6 days of fertilization, the laboratory will evaluate them morphologically and will proceed to freeze those which will most likely develop into a pregnancy.

While the donor is carrying out her stimulation, you will receive a specific treatment to prepare your endometrium for your future embryo transfer. This process lasts about 15 or 20 days, and the medication is adjusted at every moment. You can carry out your scan and hormonal test at your gynecologist and share the results with us so that you will only come to our facilities for your embryo transfer.

Once the transfer has been carried out, you can return home the same day or the day after and then you will only have to wait 13 days to do your pregnancy test at home.

Why choose our IVF program with egg donation?

– We have a highly specialized laboratory that offer maximum security and traceability during the egg donation process.

– Our donors go through a strict selection process, well above the standards indicated by Spanish legislation.

– We prioritize safety to reduce risks as much as possible, we study our donors with the most extensive genetic tests, analyzing more than 300 genetic diseases. We are all carriers of between 5-7 genetic mutations that mark us as healthy carriers of a recessive genetic disease. If our partner is a carrier of the same disease, the chance that their children will suffer from it is 25%. Although it’s not compulsory, we highly recommend this test to be carried out on the male partner in order to choose an egg donor that will not share the same disorder. By doing so, we maximize safety over the treatment and increase the chances of giving birth to a healthy child.

Born Child Guarantee Program. We have developed a Born Child Guarantee Program that offers you the security and confidence that you need. Should you not achieve your objective, we will return 100% of the amount paid. You can find out more about this program on our website.
