Sometimes the embryos that remain after an IVF cycle are vitrified for future use. Cryotransfer involves transferring the best vitrified embryo because the patient(s) has decided to get pregnant again or to try a second time.

How does the transfer of vitrified embryos?

The following are required to transfer frozen embryos:

In the clinic: the future mother has to be prepared hormonally to receive the embryo. This simply means that she will be given estrogen using patches (or sometimes orally) so that her endometrium develops correctly. The doctor will monitor her condition with ultrasound and blood tests for 10–15 days.

In the laboratory: when the endometrium is ready, the patient’s embryos are thawed out. They are then put in culture until they fully recover, and they are analyzed again. Finally, the embryos are injected into the uterus using the normal process, with a catheter, guided via ultrasound.

What are my odds of getting pregnant?

The embryo vitrification technique has developed considerably in recent years, to the point where now, a vitrified embryo retains its characteristics perfectly for an unlimited time. In other words, an embryo that is transferred in a subsequent cycle has the same chances of resulting in a pregnancy.
