Genetic Compatibility Study in the Donation Program

At Reproclinic, we are very aware of the importance of safety in treatments. For this reason, we apply the best technology, and our egg donors undergo a strict selection process, well above the standards set by Spanish legislation.

All humans are carriers (non-affected) of 5-7 genetic mutations for recessive diseases. Recessive diseases are those that require two affected copies of the same gene for clinical symptoms to appear. Being a carrier of these diseases may have no impact, except when both members of a couple or the donors are carriers of the same disease. In those cases, 25% of offspring will be affected by the disease, and 50% will be healthy carriers.

The genetic compatibility study or genetic matching helps avoid these risks. This test involves genetic analysis of over 300 recessive diseases in donors and patients, ensuring the assignment of genetically compatible donors to maximize the chances of having children free from recessive diseases.
