At Reproclinic, we believe that fertility education should be accessible to everyone. Recently, we had the opportunity to hold a dedicated training session on fertility preservation (egg freezing) for the players of A.E. Les Corts, a professional futsal team in Barcelona.

The session was led by our embryologists Carla and Arantza, who guided the athletes through the key aspects of female fertility, reproductive health, and the options available to preserve fertility for the future.

High-Performance Sport and Fertility

Professional athletes often dedicate many years to their careers, focusing on performance, discipline, and long-term goals. While this commitment brings incredible achievements, it can also mean that personal plans - including starting a family - are postponed.

In addition, high-performance sport can sometimes influence hormonal balance and menstrual cycles, which are closely linked to fertility. For this reason, understanding how the body works and how fertility evolves over time is especially important for women in professional sport.

Why Fertility Preservation Matters

Fertility preservation, commonly known as social freezing or egg freezing, allows women to preserve their reproductive potential at a younger age, when egg quality is typically higher. This can provide more flexibility and peace of mind when planning for the future.

During the session, we discussed:

• How fertility changes with age

• What egg freezing involves

• When it may be beneficial to consider it

• How to make informed decisions about reproductive health

For athletes, this knowledge can be particularly valuable, as it offers a way to align career ambitions with future family plans.

Empowering Women Through Knowledge

One of the most important goals of this session was to create a safe and open space for questions. The players showed great interest and engagement, highlighting how important it is to talk about fertility openly, even in environments where the focus is primarily on performance and results.

At Reproclinic, we see education as a key part of fertility care. By providing clear, evidence-based information, we aim to empower women to make decisions that feel right for them.

If you would like to learn more about fertility preservation or explore your options, our team at Reproclinic is here to guide you every step of the way.
