There is a significant number of women between the ages of 38 and 40 who want to have children. However, as women age their biological clocks work against them, as the quality of their eggs drastically decreases. At this age the chances of pregnancy are less than 5% per cycle. In addition, if we perform a genetic study of the embryos that are produced, we see that the percentage of embryos with chromosomal abnormalities is around 85% in the 39 to 42 age range, as this increases exponentially with the woman’s age. A chromosomally altered embryo will not lead to pregnancy and, if it does, can lead to a miscarriage or a child with a chromosomal syndrome.

Thus, the preferred assisted reproduction technique among women over 40 is in vitro fertilization with ovules from a young donor. In this way, the chances of pregnancy are the same as that of a young woman’s.

Egg donation is a simple technique that offers very good chances for pregnancy.

It basically consists of carrying out two parallel treatments: one for the donor and one for the recipient. First, an egg donor undergoes an ovarian stimulation treatment to retieve eggs, and second, the recipient undergoes an endometrial preparation treatment to be able to receive the embryos. In vitro fertilization with egg donation is the most effective technique among assisted reproduction treatments. The chances of having a child are the same as those of a mother under age 35, regardless of the age of the mother who undergoes the process. The pregnancy rate per transfer is 66.8%, and the live child at home rate per transfer is 56.8%.

Your physician will begin, together with Reproclinic, the preparation of the endometrium and the collection and cryopreservation of the semen. The semen sample will be sent to Reproclinic.
