10 Sep International Gynecological Awareness Day
International Gynecological Awareness Day, celebrated on September 10th each year, is an initiative started by Kath Mazzella, a vulval cancer survivor with a noble mission: to transform the global landscape of gynecological and sexual health, and to help women not only survive, but also thrive. Alongside her husband, she has earned numerous awards for her impactful work over the years.
How this idea came to fruition, though, was quite peculiar. Following her surgery, Kath realized that women didn’t feel confident enough to talk about issues “down there”, which resulted in many of them suffering in silence. She then came up with the idea to place an advertisement in a local women’s magazine to share her own experience. This small act of kindness allowed her to connect with many others who shared similar experiences, which eventually led to her establishing a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers, dedicated to women’s health.
In honor of this initiative, we would like to dedicate this blog to the importance of visiting your gynecologist on a regular basis. Nowadays, it’s very easy to get wrapped in our routine and say we don’t have time for our routine checkups. But the truth is, even if you’re perfectly healthy, you still need a checkup to ensure you’re on the right path.
